Applying through Clearing

Clearing is a process that allows university applicants who have not secured a place through their initial application to find a space on an alternative course or institution.  It is particularly helpful for those who did not meet their conditions, changed their mind on their course or university, or did not receive any offers.

To help you navigate clearing, we have devised a simple 7-step process:

Step 1: Check your eligibility

  • If you didn't receive any offers or didn't accept the ones you received

  • If you didn't meet the conditions of your firm or insurance choice and were subsequently rejected

  • If you are applying after June 30

Step 2: Build your application

If you haven't already applied, create a UCAS application for 2025 entry. Once submitted, you can manage your applications by logging into UCAS, the online application portal. Please note: If you are a current Level 3 student within the Eastern Education Group, or have been in the last three years, you can apply direct using our Internal Progression Form.

Step 3: Monitor clearing vacancies

We have places available in Clearing across our Degrees, HNC/Ds and HTQs.

Step 4: Prepare Clearing contacts

After receiving your exam results, contact us about your preferred courses by calling 01284 412026 or emailing universitystudiesadmissions@easterneducationgroup.ac.uk.

Step 5: Prepare your questions and answers (Q&A)

Have your UCAS ID and results ready. It's advisable to prepare any questions you have about the process, before speaking to our University Centre Admissions Team.

Some courses may require an interview. Keep a pen handy to note any deadlines or important information provided.

Step 6: Consideration stage

After verifying that you meet the entry requirements for the course, our University Centre Admissions Team will follow up with an email confirming any offer. We may also request additional information or evidence, so regularly check your emails.

Step 7: Consider the Clearing Plus service

UCAS provides Clearing Plus as a backup option if your initial plans don't work out. UCAS can match your details to courses they believe might interest you. If you match with any of the suggestions, universities can contact you through this service in August if they have suitable course places available based on your application.

To be eligible for this service, you must have been unsuccessful in your original application or submitted your application after June 30. Additionally, you'll need to pay the UCAS Application Fee.

  • If you already have your results and have already applied but have no offers (or none that you want to accept), you are eligible to use Clearing.

You will need to contact us directly to check if there are spaces available and once you have provided evidence that your qualifications meet the entry requirements, we will be able to make you an offer*.

    *depending on availability

If we can offer you a place, we will email you directly. To accept our offer, you will need to go to the ‘Your Choices’ section in your UCAS hub and click ‘Add Clearing Choice’ then enter the details that we have provided you with in the email.

  • If you are not awaiting results and have not yet applied, you will need to contact us directly to check if there are spaces available and that your qualifications meet the entry requirements.

  • There is still time to change your choice for September. The first step is to contact UCAS and explain that you wish to change your choices. They will be able to support you through the process. If you have already accepted a conditional place, you will need to contact the university directly and ask them to release you into clearing. We recommend that you contact us to confirm we have spaces before asking your current choice to release you.

Once you have been released, you will be able to apply via Clearing. To do this you will need to contact us directly to check if there are spaces available and that your qualifications meet the entry requirements. If we can offer you a space, we will email you directly. You can accept this offer by going to the ‘Your Choices’ section in your UCAS hub and clicking ‘Add Clearing Choice’ and entering the details that we have provided you with. We will then be able to confirm your place via the UCAS hub.

If you are holding a firm unconditional place but have changed your mind, you can self-release by using the ‘decline my place’ button in your UCAS Hub.

  • If results didn't go to plan, you can add a Clearing choice on results day. Before adding your Clearing choice, you will need to contact us directly to check if there are spaces available and that your qualifications meet the entry requirements. If so, we may make an informal offer and provide you with the institute and course code. Once you have these you can update your Clearing choice in your UCAS hub.
